NIST-Traceable Gas Detection Calibration

Gas Detection Calibration

NIST-traceable calibration and bump testing for gas detectors, gas monitors, gas sniffers, and gas analyzers. Protecting workers with accurate gas detection for workplace safety and regulatory compliance.

Why Gas Detection Calibration Matters

Gas detection calibration is critical for workplace safety in environments with toxic, combustible, or oxygen-deficient atmospheres. Accurate gas detection prevents accidents, saves lives, and ensures OSHA compliance. Regular calibration and bump testing verify that your gas detectors respond accurately to hazardous gases including H₂S, CO, CH₄, O₂, and other toxic or combustible gases. Without proper calibration, gas detectors can fail to alarm, creating life-threatening situations for workers.

Our Calibration Process

Multi-gas calibration and bump testing with NIST-traceable standards

1

Receiving & Inspection

Each gas detector is logged into our system with unique identification. Visual inspection documents condition, sensor types, battery status, and calibration history.

2

Bump Test

We perform a bump test (functional test) to verify the detector responds to known concentrations of target gases and that alarms activate properly.

3

Zero Calibration

Detectors are zeroed in fresh air or zero gas to establish the baseline reading. This ensures accurate measurement of gas concentrations.

4

Span Gas Calibration

Known concentrations of NIST-traceable calibration gases are applied to each sensor. The detector is adjusted to read accurately at the span gas concentration.

5

Verification & Testing

After calibration, we verify accuracy with additional test gases and confirm alarm setpoints activate at proper concentrations. Battery and sensor condition are documented.

6

Certification & Return

Complete calibration certificates include bump test results, as-found/as-left data, gas types and concentrations used, sensor life remaining, and traceability documentation.

Compliance & Standards

OSHA & Safety Standards

We follow OSHA requirements and industry best practices for gas detection:

  • OSHA 1910.146: Permit-required confined spaces
  • OSHA 1926.21: Hazard communication
  • ISA 12.13.01: Combustible gas detectors
  • ISA 92.00.01: Performance requirements
  • Manufacturer calibration procedures
  • Daily bump testing recommended

NIST Traceability

Every calibration uses certified reference gases traceable to NIST:

  • NIST-traceable calibration gas standards
  • Certified gas mixtures
  • Complete chain of custody documentation
  • Gas concentration verification
  • Calibration certificates with traceability
  • Regulatory-compliant documentation

Industry Applications

Our gas detection calibration services support safety across industries:

  • Oil & Gas Production & Refining
  • Chemical Manufacturing
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Mining Operations
  • Confined Space Operations
  • Emergency Response Teams
